A Statement from SNO-Toronto
The National School Food Program
Student Nutrition Ontario -Toronto (SNO-Toronto) welcomes the creation of the National School Food Program and the federal government's investment of $200M annually for the next five years. Since 2020, programs in Toronto have seen unprecedented numbers of new students accessing existing programs and urgent requests for new programs. We are grateful that the federal government is committed to implementing the National School Food Program by September 2024.
Member organizations of SNO-Toronto (Toronto Public Health, Toronto Catholic District School Board, Toronto District School Board, Angel Foundation for Learning, Toronto Foundation for Student Success) will continue to work together with the municipal, provincial and federal governments, communities, schools and families to help ensure a successful launch of the National School Food Program.
More than 200,000 children and teens participate in Student Nutrition Programs (SNPs) every school day across Toronto. These programs are supported by thousands of volunteers, school staff members, parents, students and community members. Each SNP is a unique reflection of the community and students it serves. Student Nutrition Ontario - Toronto (SNO-Toronto) is a collaborative community advisory partnership that works together to support Student Nutrition Programs.
